This week I took part in a Workshop by Sascha Vogel (https://sciencebirds.de/) learning how to communicate science using social media. Especially the discussions on (mis-)use of social media to promote fake news and on the responsibility of scientists to communicate their work really stuck with me.
It was a well structured course where we first learned the theoretical basics of science communication. For instance it is really important to know the audience you are trying to reach (“If you try to reach everyone, you will probably reach no-one”)
These ideas were later enhanced by hands-on practice on our social-media plattform of choice. Here Richmond Kuleape and I tinkered with LinkedIn where we want to build a more regular presence by communicating science we find interesting on a weekly basis. (See our first try here)
The seminar definitely made me want to communicate more of my science through my website and social media.
