After taking over 700 soil samples in the Freiburg fieldcampaign, I am now analyzing the soil water stable isotope composition. Therefore the sample bags are inflated with dried air and heat sealed. After 48 hour equilibration time, each bag gets tested. Therefore, the bags are pricked with a needle and tube, leading to a PICARRO cavity ring down spectrometer. The measuring process takes about 5-8 Minutes per bag, after which the next one is attached. The work is very time consuming. Thats why we are currently working on an autosampler which hopefully speeds up sample processing.
